Get Your Daily Bread…

Holiday Countdown

Its Sunday, i’m at school doing a few jobs and can’t wait for the holidays. Only two more weeks to go. Term 2 is a hard one, not many long weekends to break it up. About half of my kids have been sick with the flu and now i’ve got the snots too- yuck. I hope i’m not too infected. Don’t wanna end up like this:

During the school holdays a few things are on:

1. I get to sleep in and have pj days

2. Leis gets back- yay!

3. Melbourne trip with Alanna and Heidi for 4 days.

Even though it will be a break, i’ll still be busy i guess. Also will be at school for a few days getting organised for term 3.

The kids are like monkeys

Hi hi. I’m at school and its during lunch. I’ve currently got three kids in for not doing their work (i’m a tough teacher) and all the other kids are running around and hanging off the play equipment, like monkeys.

On Saturday nite i went up to Maginty’s to see Marcus play and to celebrate the launch of his CD http://mwynwood.com/index.php . I caught up with Hayley and Marcus and also saw Em who trekked up from Hobart. Alanna also kept me company as we joked about “taking the girls out” and all the fashion out and about. Our favourite was the man who chose a tree-patterned spray jacket (pic below and sorry to those people who might have known him!), accesorised with a beard and trainers. On closer inspection of the photo, i found a guy making an “ok” sign and hence left it in there- read into it as you will!

It's a hard one to drive home- but this guy does it well...

The tree jacket..

I myself was sporting a newly done do’, jeans, top and cardy. I was playing it safe in the fashion area- but accesorised with the latest, the “And I Say” album! I had a great night, thanks for the invite guys!

Also only four more weeks till school holidays and about a fortnight til Leis is back (woo! cake for everyone!!). Let the countdown begin…

Hands covered in poo- well it looked like that to me

At Leonie’s request i have gotten my act together, and what follows is all thats been going down. Have been very busy with school, kids reports and in general. Sleep is pretty light on at the moment and it will be great to get a sleep in- when ever that might be. I’ve also started tutoring kids for a day a week through a program called “An Even Start”, but so far, all the work has been on my behalf, not the program- grrr. No matter, i’m sure it will all work out- lots of planning, but will be ok.

Also have kindly volunteered half a day to come in and work with my kids to do a spot of cooking. We have been focussing on measuring and fractions and i spent $35 buying heaps of packets if bikkies, condensed milk, coconut and cocoa (its not all mine-honest!). All went ok, besides the coconut all over the floor and the kids hands looking like they were covered in poo. We had “truffle maths” today and sorted, counted and divided our creations- notso bad.

- The truffle mix, along with dounut shaped truffles, although i said only ball shapes, jeez-

And more news- I’m going to be an aunty again! My brother and his partner are expecting towards the end of February. A LONG time to wait, but i’m sure the baby (hopefully a girl ;) will turn out gorgeous just like it’s aunty :]  Also my nephew is seven on Saturday and my mum is having her bday on Monday- cake pics soon.

Am also beginning to be a little bit excited about Leis’ imminent return- not too excited mind you. So there you go- all up to date :)

Bye.

Playing Catchup in my Wellies

I’ve been slack. So i’ll fill you in with whats been happening. Lets start with the school trip.

The week away with the kids was pretty good. The first night never goes well for sleeping (kids and teachers) and there were a few kids that spent some time outside their rooms for talking. There were no accidents at ice skating and we didn’t lose anyone (although i tried a few times). Our country kids had no concept of “stick to the right” on the busy city streets and walked so bloody slow! They would be hopeless in peak hour on the tube. I also had my birthday on the trip and got to have a posh lunch at Parliment House. Then it was Heidi’s birthday the next day. We got a cake and a card each to celebrate.

The last day saw us head to Eastlands to do a bit of shopping- i was just too stuffed to do any clothes shopping and just wandered around the shops- alone (it was great). The whole group were pretty noisy whilst we were away- but the bus trip home wasn’t too bad. I slept heaps during the weekend and still felt stuffed by the end of the next week. Lucky i’m on holidays now and don’t have to face a class full of kids.

Moving right along. I’ve got a cold (again- if there is a god, he ain’t looking after me) and feel pretty crap. I think the only thing that made me feel better were these lovelys:

Yep, wellies. They came in the post from Annaleis and i LOVE THEM! The bag got opened at customs and then re-sealed with Quarrantine notices, but they made it. They fit perfectly for shoe size and are snug in the calf area. I took them to school and the Grade 4’s tried them on. Some of the girls even wore them around the room!

Now it’s term break and i’ve got a list of jobs to do. Including tidy the room, sort paperwork and mark books etc. Report writing is starting after the holidays- ugh… Better go and start the cleanup :)

An epic journey…to Hobart (Part 1)

“Is it really going to take 7 hours on a bus to get to Hobart?” said Johnny.

“No, of course not,” said Miss B, “We’ve booked the Magic School Bus. It will only a few minutes-max!”

I really hope the bus company have something like this tucked away…

This coming week i’m off to Hobart with a bunch of kids for the bi-annual “city experince” to Hobart. I’m leaving nine kids behind (Grade 4’s) and taking my Grade 5’s along with the other 5/6 class to sightsee, rock climb and check out chilly Hobart. I’m hoping we don’t have anyone getting bus sick (myself included)…

I’m looking forward to going, and will have my birthday with the kids and teachers from school the week that i’m there. Won’t see my family till the end of the week. No matter, have already gotten presents from mum (kitchen scales and mini lights) and my brother, so just have to check for all the others (i’m expecting truckloads) that will have arrived in the post when i get back! He he…

We are going to Cadbury’s (just to watch a movie and to go to the shop- no tours anymore (humph!!), swimming, ice skating (i can’t help but imagine sliced hands, legs etc), cinema, mini golf, All You Can Eat Pizza Hut, bowling, Museum visit and having a posh lunch at Parliment House! Phew. I can’t wait for Friday though- we go to a shopping centre and let the kids loose and we get to do our own stuff.

I’ll report back when i return from the epic journey…I’m getting tired just thinking about it!! I haven’t even started packing my bag- oh bugger it, i’ll do it later.

Melbourne Trip

We left on Thursday came back Saturday and were very tired! As soon as we arrived we checked out the DFO at Southern Cross Station (got supplies from Smiggle) and straight into Lush for some smelly stuff (soaps, conditioner and perfume). Round to our hotel in the Bourke St Mall. Unpacked and then trammed it to Victoria Gardens to FINALLY visit IKEA. I’d been waiting to go to IKEA for ages- all i had to look at was the catalouge and circle things with my black pen.

In the huge self-serve area

The store is huge and even ma was impressed! I walked around- i was really overwhelmed. I loved playing with all the bits in the showroom and loved the bathroom storage area. After the showrooms i headed to the market hall and got some bits and pieces. Although i wanted to buy more, most of the flat pack stuff was too heavy to take back on the plane. I reckon i’ll be back though- only next time with the Hilux to carry all the stuff back home. I really think we need one in Tassie!! Also headed into Freedom where i got some pretty fairy lights with flowers on them and also to Howards Storage World.

The next day (Friday) we headed out to Werribee on the train. We checked out the mansion and also the open range zoo. The mansion was huge and the rooms were really posh. Both were great and we got to see some of the animals up close. We trekked around on a Jurrassic Park style bus and got really close to rhinos, zebras and giraffes.

Werribee Mansion and Gardens and Ma checks out the lions at the Open Range Zoo (or are they checking her out??). Also the giraffes (had to put this one in for Annaleis) and white rhinos.

On our final day we checked out the Queen Victoria Markets (i got some new ugg boots) and the Melbourne Museum (saw Phar Lap here).

Finally made it home after driving from Launceston. I was tired but couldn’t help but put one of my IKEA purchases together. I did alright too, only there was one screw missing!!

Ta-da! I did it!! I put the cutlery stand together in a matter of minutes. Only have to add a few more bits before i can use it. It’s going to be for stationary on my desk. Yay!

Garage Sales

The whole family (well my mum, my sister, my nephew and i) went to check out the garage sales today. After not getting much at other garage sales, we came across an awesome one!

My sister got a huge lamp and i got a rocking chair for $50! I’d been eyeing one off for ages now and almost bought one around christmas for $70. This one is in heaps better condition, so i’m glad i waited! Once again, not sure where i’ll actually put it, but $50 was just too good to miss out on. It will probably fit in the office.

I’m willing to lend it to friends, family etc- for a $1 a turn ;) Cha Ching…

More Cake…

Two cakes and a pav

The cakes were both for 40th Birthdays and the Pav was just to see if i could make one-yum!!

I’m feeling a bit crafty

Shit…That’s what i said when the zipper pull broke off my handbag. I used the pocket heaps and definitely needed something there. I tried my BBC keyring- not great, then thought i’d try and make my own bag charm. I got beads, chain and charms and went to work with my pliers. I even got an “M” to personalise it!

Bling

The end result is pretty spiffy and it sure has added bling to my bag! My personal jeweller (Libby) is sure to be pleased with my efforts!! What do you think??

I also got material ($2 a metre-bargain) and hope to make a top- hmm i think i’ll  try that later. Byee.

Holidays, then back to work…

Easter was pretty good. The holidays i mean. And i guess the chocolate was ok too! A bit of a low down about my Easter break…

On Easter Friday my mum and i moved all the stuff from my old classroom to my new one. Four hours later and most of the stuff was in. Needless to say, i can’t find anything in my new store room! Photos later…

I went to Launnie on Tuesday and camped on Olivia’s couch. Had tea with Olivia and co. and invited Cameron along for a high class tea at Morty’s. Did some shopping on Wednesday with Olivia and finished the day around 2pm with toasties (thanks Olivia!). Round to see Brendan (first time in ages) and then headed home.

Did some jobs at home and some marking- ohh an did my bit of reports for the kids. Made a cake on Saturday for a cousin’s 40th and went to the school Twighlight Auction. I did shifts in the hot food van, lolly tent and on the gate. Also purchased two hardwood doors ($4) to sand back and make into a table one day (poor mum- where am i going to put it??) Went to Wynyard for the 40th and got home by 2am.

Back to work on Monday, with excited kids (new classroom must do that).  Working tomorrow (relief) on my class and on Friday. Heaps of marking to do Wednesday and Thursday night and i’m beginning to think work over the weekend too. Bugger.

Oh well, gotta get the job done!

My kimmidoll keyring

P.S- Got a kimmidoll.com key ring. She’s very cute and i’m hoping to get one of the larger ones later.
